Lexi & Noah’s North Shore Engagement

We know we shouldn’t have favorites, but if we had to choose, Lexi & Noah’s North Shore Engagement has been one of our favorite shoots to date.

The North Shore of Minnesota is one of our favorite places! There really is no other place in Minnesota more beautiful than the shores of Lake Superior. So when Lexi and Noah reached out asking about taking the trip up there, we were a little too excited! We went up a couple days early to scout out spots along the shore.

Duluth being about 4 hours away, we decided to take the weekend. We initially scheduled Sunday as our shoot day and Monday as a back-up just in case weather turned bad (which is all too common it seems up there). But Sunday’s weather was perfect! I mean PERFECT! The sun was golden, it was a balmy 70 degrees, and there was almost no wind (which is almost unheard of along The Shore).

We started out down in Canal Park, in the hustle and bustle of Duluth. We grabbed a few historical downtown shots before heading north up along the Shore.

Our first stop along the shore was Black Sand Beach in Silver Bay. Can we be honest for a second? It really doesn’t look very black in person… It was stunning regardless and we spent a good chunk of time shooting there. The water was so blue, splashing against red rock cliffs topped with green pines and other foliage.

It was so fun getting to watch Lexi & Noah relax and laugh as they chased each other along the beach and splashed in the cold waters of Lake Superior! Some of my favorite photos from the shoot were taken on that beach!

It wasn’t long until we had to get back into the cars again to get to our final destination- Tettegouche State Park. Now this is one of my favorite places up North. The views are unbelievable! You get a little bit of everything at this park, incredible shoreline, high cliffs, waterfalls if you hike in deep enough, tall pine trees and rushing rivers. We made the 15 minute hike to the overlook. When we arrived, we just had to stop and take in the view for awhile. It was just too good not to soak in. I also wanted to give Lexi and Noah a chance to breathe and just be in the moment together.

We shot until the golden sun dipped down behind the hills. I have to admit I was a little sad to see it go. I could’ve stayed there for hours. It had been the perfect day.
